Public Works Campus

On July 8, 2019, the City held an official ribbon cutting and open house at the new Sturgis Public Works campus.  The campus is now home to all the Public Works divisions.

Following numerous public meetings and careful consideration by the Sturgis City Council, on June 4, 2018, the Council gave their final approval to award a bid for the construction of a new Public Works Campus at 1057 Dudley.

Budget:  A $4.6 million bid was awarded to Ainsworth Benning out of Rapid City for construction.

Financing: A rural development loan was obtained (40-year payback).
The City provided an additional $800K for demolition, new outbuildings, and engineering fees.  The outbuildings were needed to house equipment during construction and will be re-purposed once the project is complete.

The new campus will provide one location for all divisions working within the Public Works Department.
The campus will also provide covered parking for all equipment which will help extend longevity and will reduce the time required to mobilize during the winter months.

On June 27, 2018, a formal groundbreaking ceremony was held.

All employees were temporarily relocated when the old infrastructure was torn down, with the exception of the Administrative Building, which was sold and relocated.
