Early voting now open for April Sturgis Municipal Election

The Sturgis Municipal Election is scheduled for Tuesday, April 8, at the Sturgis Community Center. 

There are City Council races in Ward 3 and Ward 4. Candidates in Ward 3 are Mark Chaplin and David Murtha. Candidates in Ward 4 are Terry Jensen and Steve Shuck. Only residents living in those Wards can vote in the April election.

You can pick up an absentee ballot or vote at the Finance Office at Sturgis City Hall now through 5 p.m. on Monday, April 7. The Finance Office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. 

The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8. All wards will vote at the Community Center in the Meade Room.

The City of Sturgis holds municipal elections two out of every three years. Once elected, city council and mayoral terms are for three years. 

Those elected on April 8, will take the oath of office at the May 5 Sturgis City Council meeting along with Alex Usera, Ward 1, Tony Dargatz, Ward 2 and Kevin Forrester, Sturgis Mayor. Usera, Dargatz and Forrester were unopposed for their positions in the April election. 

Others currently serving on Sturgis City Council are: Nick Jones, Ward 1, Ruth Kopp, Ward 2, Jim Thompson, Ward 3 and Jesse Blakeman, Ward 4.
