Petitions for city council, mayor available Jan. 31

STURGIS - The first day to pick up petitions for Sturgis City Council or Sturgis mayor is Friday, Jan. 31, at the Finance Office in Sturgis City Hall.

The Finance Office will be open that day from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Candidates must gather 50 signatures on their petitions to be placed on the ballot. Petitions must be returned to the Finance Office at City Hall by 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28.

The municipal election will take place on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

There is one council opening in each of the four Wards as well as the opening for mayor. Those currently serving in the council positions are Alex Usera, Ward 1; Tony Dargatz, Ward 2; Mark Chaplin, Ward 3, and the Ward 4 seat is that vacated when Kevin Forrester became Mayor. 

The City of Sturgis holds municipal elections two out of every three years. Once elected, City Council terms are for three years. The term for mayor is also for three years.
