STURGIS – The Sturgis City Council will meet in special session at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, to discuss the employment agreement of Sturgis City Attorney Mark Marshall.
The meeting was called by Council President Kevin Forrester and the notice signed by a majority of council members including Ruth Kopp, Tony Dargatz, Nick Jones, Jesse Blakeman and Jim Thompson. Don Lanpher and Mike Bachand did not sign the notice.
The report accompanying the request for a special meeting says that the current City Attorney Employment Agreement established on June 21, 2021 is with the City Council.
It goes on to say that given the terms of the agreement and considering state statute 9-14-23, it is the duty of the Council to consider the function, fitness, and contractual obligations of the City Attorney and take appropriate action as deemed necessary.
