STURGIS – Four new sculptures will be unveiled Saturday in downtown Sturgis.

The art will be part of the rotating Sturgis Art Walk which is hoped to bring more people to the downtown area, said Mark Bruch, president of Downtown Sturgis Foundation.

This Unveiling Ceremony will take place during the Chamber's Sturgis Art Festival beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1. Participants are asked to meet at the main stage at Harley-Davidson Rally Point to join the guided tour of the four new sculptures.

Bruch will briefly speak about each sculpture during a leisurely walking tour. This year's tour will highlight four brand new sculptures that will be on display in downtown Sturgis until May of next year. 

Those sculptures include;

• Sunriser by artist Jeff Satter. Sunriser is a stainless-steel piece showcasing the diverse beauty of nature, combining modern metal elements with abstract shapes. Satter, a Sioux Falls artist, has displayed more than 20 pieces throughout the Midwest since starting in 2017.
• Mountain Love by Christine Knapp. Mountain Love (shown above) is one of two works Knapp was selected to display in Sturgis this year. Knapp, who is headquartered in Lyons, Colo., is known for her impressive, realistic bronze pieces frequently featuring human and animal subjects. 
• Twisted Toad by Christine Knapp. Twisted Toad is the other sculpture being showcased this year in Sturgis. This sculpture was juried into and toured the United States with the Society of Animal Artists Annual Exhibition.
• Tenderness by Reno Carollo. Tenderness exemplifies Carollo’s history of art exploration and collaboration. Carollo has developed his craft over the past 43 years from jewelry to large resin pieces such as Tenderness. Thie unique colors of this sculpture will add a vibrant splash to Main Street Sturgis. 

In addition to the Downtown Sturgis Foundation, the Downtown Business Improvement District, the Greater Sturgis Area Foundation, the Sturgis Area Arts Council and the City of Sturgis also helped make the Sturgis Art Walk a reality.

Bruch said the foundation worked with the city and the city’s public works department to determine the location of the sculptures.

Each of the artists will get an honorarium for having their art displayed.

“We’re trying to make our Main Street as nice as we can,” Bruch said. “Sculptures and art are a great way to enhance the downtown, and hopefully keep folks downtown a little longer.”
