Job Title: Patrol Officer

Salary range: ​​​​​​​Hourly wage:  $26.56 per hour (non-certified) or $27.36 to $28.49 per hour (certified, depending on experience & qualifications).  Note:  Actual scheduled shift to be determined.  Benefits include medical, dental, life insurance, retirement.

Location: 1400 Main Street, Sturgis, SD

Department: Police

Hours: Full-time, non-exempt, eligible for benefits

Job Description:

The Patrol Officer is responsible for performing general law enforcement functions related to law and order and is responsible to serve the legal processes of the courts.

  • Certified law enforcement officer?  (Preference given for the right candidate)  
    • $27.36 to $28.49 per hour, starting wage, DOQE

  • No prior law enforcement experience?

    • Sponsorship to the SD Law Enforcement Academy

  • 12 hour work shifts – NO residency requirement

  • Every other weekend off
    • Work 5 shifts first week and only 2 shifts the second week
    • Fixed schedule – know when you’ll work for the rest of the year

  • Participate in the South Dakota Retirement System, receive a pension when retire

  • Additional annual retirement match up to $1,000 into the Supplemental Retirement Plan

  • $800 annual uniform allowance

All non-certified candidates will be required to pass a POST test if the preliminary background check allows their entrance into the selection process.  Successful candidates will be required to pass post-offer background check (including financial), physical examination, mental health certification and polygraph examination.
