The Sturgis comunity is located near the base of several major drainages. By nature, much of the city is located within the FEMA designated flood zone. In 1972, when much of the Black Hills received major damage due to flooding, Sturgis also had wide spread flooding within city limits as well as downstream, east of town.
Whether your home is located within a designanted flood zone or not, it is wise to be prepared for flooding. See the pages related to flooding and make sure your family is prepared.
You can also visit the

If a flood event occurs in Sturgis, tune in to the local radio station KBHB (AM 810) and visit the City website for information on where the flooding is taking place and where you can go to be safe.
