The Sturgis City Dams are located south of Sturgis along the Deadman Trail System.

The dams are accessible by hiking from one of the trailheads on the Deadman Trail.  You can not drive to the dams.   The closest trailhead can be accessed by driving 2.6 miles south of Belle Joli Winery on Vanocker Canyon Road.  Turn left onto a USFS road and drive a short distance to the parking area. From the parking lot you will need to hike 2.07 miles over the ridge and down to the dams.  Be prepared for an uphill hike back to the parking area.   Please pack out what you pack in - there are no trash cans or any other facilities at the dams.

During the week of October 21, 2018, the SD GF&P stocked the dams with Rainbow Trout.  If you want to fish, you must have a valid SD fishing license and abide by all fishing regulations.

NOTE: The property where the City-owned dams are located is bordered by federal land as well as private property.  Private property is posted 'No Trespassing' and the owner does not allow access.
