There is a desperate need for more trained EMTs across the United States and in the State of South Dakota. Completing an EMT course will provide opportunities to high school students seeking to support community projects, civic service along with future career and academic opportunities available to certified EMTs. Sanford Health has a number of funding options for high school students to participate in the EMT course during the 2023 school year. These partnerships include funding sources from the Department of Labor and Regulation, Federal grant funding from SAMHSA, sponsorships and scholarships, and private payment.

CPR Training: We offer monthly four-hour CPR certification classes. Classes are free. However, if you wish to get a CPR card, it is a $10 fee.
EMT-Basic Training: The Sturgis Ambulance also regularly offers National and State Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) classes. The classes are mostly online through JB Learning and will include discussions, quizzes, and interactive lectures. There are practice nights scheduled throughout the session to work on the hands-on skills and go over questions. All students are required to coordinate ride-time to ensure adequate patient contacts and field experience. For information on future classes, please contact Halli at (605) 347-5801. For questions about lapsed or expired certifications, please ask to speak with Shawn.
The Ambulance Service also conducts monthly refresher training for all certification levels.
If you would like more information about upcoming training opportunities or for a complete schedule, please contact the station at (605) 347-5801.
Community Outreach: The Ambulance Service is very active within the community offering public relations, training, and services outside of regular EMS duties.
