Wastewater Treatment Facility Presentation Given at City Council

The presentation was given as discussions have taken place over the past few years regarding the need to replace the City's aging wastewater-treatment facility.

The current facility has met its life expectancy and there is no room for growth.  Additionally, the current facilities no longer meet the minimum requirements set forth by state and federal regulators. The $16,247,000 capital improvement project would include construction of a new treatment facility, a new main sewer line from the city to the treatment plant and funding to conduct more slip-lining of existing lines in an effort to reduce the amount of infiltration going to the treatment facility.

With the help of a pre-approved SRF, 30-year, low-interest loan, the project costs will be reduced to $14,247,000.  The Infrastructure Committee and staff have been working with engineers to identify the best options for financing as well as the best system to replace the current facility. Initial costs, size, capacity, maintenance costs and the ability to meet future regulations were all considered.

More discussions, including funding options, will take place at the June 5 City Council meeting.
